Cole is a small standard standing only about 20 inches tall at his shoulder.  He weighs about 35 pounds

While he looks black in many of his photos he is actually a black and white   or blue and white.  Dogs with limited white markings are called abstracts or mismarks.

Blue poodles are born black and fade to some shade of grey. It can be hard to tell whether a young poodle is blue or black.

As much as I liked Cole in his fluffy  2nd puppy clip aka Scandinavian in the US  that coat was a lot of work to keep in good shape. .  Neither Cole nor I really enjoyed that so we cut it all off and boy did he look odd and so skinny...

So we let his coat grow out some and put him in a Continental.   That limited the amount of grooming needed.  By  then Twilight was starting to look very nice  in her cords and I fell in love with how easy they were for me to maintain so we decided to put Cole in cords also.

This is the early stages of cording.  He is bathed and allowed to air dry so the coats natural curls form. Many people assume the cords are  nasty,  tight to the skin mats.  This is simply not true.  Yes cording is a form of controlled matting  but at no time should the cords be matted up tight to the skin. Each cord is totally separate from the others allowing them to move freely so there is no tugging or pulling on the skin.  It also means air can move freely around and through the cords preventing skin problems you would see in badly matted dogs.

While  rarely seen this is an acceptable coat in the show ring and is normally shown with the coat shaved in a Continental pattern.

What a difference a year makes!  Cole ent through a very ugly neglected look stage that is normal when cording and I was this close to shaving off all  that ugly mess.....  I was talked into letting it grow and WOW!! Look how beautiful he is now.

While cords are not to everyones tastes corded Poodles are an important part of the breed history.   In fact the very first Champion poodle in the UK  was a Corded Poodle and one of the first divisions was for Corded Poodles and Curly coated poodles.
