Health Testing

As a pet buyer you will often hear only buy from health tested parents.   But what is health testing?

IT IS NOT taking your dogs to the local vet to have them looked at and found healthy for breeding.

It is having the appropriate genetic testing done to ensure puppies are not born with preventable genetic disorders.  Exactly which tests are done depends on the variety.  We use Paw Prints Genetics for most of our testing.

It is also physical testing which can include hip and elbow X-Rays or manual manipulation of Patellas to insure they are good.   None of our dogs will ever be bred until they have passed a hip evaluation.

Any good breeder will not only have tested their dogs, they will be happy to show you the test results AND answer any questions you may have.

You want to see OFA or Pennhip results for hips.  OFA are posted publicly online and any one can look them up as long as they have the registered name of the dog.   Pennhip will at least have an official notice of the results and some breeders will pay to have them posted publicly online with OFA.

You will notice that all our individual dog pages have a section at the top showing the testing that dog has had or still needs.   All completed health testing will have either links to the results  or the actual results posted.    While not actually health testing we do the  UC Davis diversity testing on our dogs and list them on Better Bred  which provides us another tool to help produce healthy long lived puppies.
